• AGAINST A YOUNG GIRI
DEATH OF A BABY.

Christchurch, Last Night.
An adjourned inquest was held to-day concerning the death of an illegitimate female child found dead on June 30 in a dress basket in a room in the United Service Hotel.
Dr. Pearson deposed that a number of wounds were visible on the child’bback and the spinal chord had been injured. In reply to the coroner witness said ' the smaller wounds might have been caused after death, but tha neck wounds and those on the back were inflicted. during life. The coroner found that death wae due to an incised wound which had been intentionally caused. After the inquest Hilda Louisa Burgess, 16 years and 8 months old, was charged that about July 1 she murdered her illegitimate female child. On the application of the police a demand was granted.
