THE TRAMWAYS.

MONTH’S REVENUE INCREASE.

MORE PASSENGERS CARRIED.

The revenue earned by the New Plymouth trams last month was £1626 7s 7d, which is an advance of £287 2s 3d on the receipts for June of 1920. The passengers carried numbered 153,578, an increase of 10,202.

Commenting on the working the manager (Mr. R. H. Bartley), in his monthly report, states: “We ore able now to make these conrpari-soiw on an even basis, which was not possible before, due to the fact that the .altered conditions of running had not been in operation for a complete year, and I think it will be agreed that the position as shown above in a satisfactory one. With the exception of one instance where it has been necessary to replace an axle and wheel centre in one of the small cars, the maintenance has been normal and the service maintained continuously without interruption. I purpose delaying the main annual overhaul and painting of cars until we get the three new cars erected and in traffic. It may be necessary to make this overhaul more extensive than hitherto, particularly in the matter of painting, and, if so, I strongly recommend that it be done. A certain amount of work has been and is being done on track-patching, etc., but the weather conditions are not too favorable for this class of work at the present time.”
