OBITUARY.

MRS. C. TOPLESS. Mrs. C. Topless, who recently died after a long illness, was 75 years of age. She was a colonist of over 40 years’ standing, and belonged to old Lincolnshire stock. When coming to Taranaki in 1876 the province was just giving an opportunity to those prepared to work as were most of those from the English shires in those days. The family first setlted at Waitara Road, but after a while went to the place Later occupied by Mr. Stark at Tikorangi. Then the West Coast leases were made available, and Mr. Topless secured the property at Waihi, which the family worked until the old couple's retirement three years ago. There were eleven children and they all had set before, them those qualities of industry and contentment which meant much in times when there were not the recompenses that are now considered to make life worth living. Gf course, as the years wore on, the boys and girls made homes of their own, and some betook themselves to other parts. The members of the family are: Mesdames W. Morrison (Tariki), H. .Mills (Woodville), R. and J. Walters (Waiuku), Blanchard (Tariki), Messrs. S. and W. Topless (Urenui), C. Topless (Motunui), A. Topless (Waitara Road), W. and H. Topless (Waitara). There are 24 grandchildren. Many friends will tender their sympathy to the bereaved husband, sons and daughters.
