WAITARA.
HARBOR BOARD. (From Our Own Correspondent.) July 12. The Waitara Harbor Board held its .monthly meeting on Friday last, Mr. James Hine presiding. The Board received a. letter from E. 'A. Martin, Eltharo, withdrawing his tender for the lease of farm Waitara West. The board decided to offer same to Mr. T. Wilson, the only other tenderer, at the price offered by him, £75 per annum. Tenders are to be called again if not accepted by him. It was suggested that the board should enforce stricter conditions in regard to noxious weeds than at present. With this end in view the chairman stated that he would, in conjunction with the secretary, make a tour of inspection and report to next meeting. Mr. A. Kibby wrote accepting the valuation arrived at of £27 10s, annual rental for his premises. Messrs. Masters, Ltd., wrote stating that they would not require accommodation for storing cement, as they had secured same elsewhere. The secretary reported that repairs had been carried out on the wharf shed floor at a cost of £l5 4s, and the river bank at £l6 2s. There had been a sub - sidence at the wharf owing to a scour at the bottom of the sheathing, but this was a matter difficult to remedy, owing to heavy timber being lodged below the piles. The secretary was instructed to temporarily remedy the trouble, and the works committee are to inspect the same with a view to making permanent repairs. Accounts to the amount of £66 8s Id were passed for payment. GENERAL ITEMS. The Maoris at the Manokorihi Pah have installed an electric lighting plant of their own. The new Maori meeting house is io be officially opened on the 18th inst. Many visitors jt re already arriving from all parts of the country. . Mr. F. Hoskin, member of the Education Board, reports that the Minister of Education has promised to bring the application for a grant of £1728 for the re-modelling of the Waitara School before Cabinet in a few weeks’ time. Mrs. M. Topliss, an old and respected settler, passed away on Tuesday morning, at the age of 75 years. At a game of cards, cribbage and euchre, on Tuesday evening, the R.S.A. beat Druids by 29 to *26.
