WORKERS’ EDUCATIONAL MOVE MENTS. One of the most interesting of I ; ■ series of lectures on economics to members of the Workers’ Education t Association was given by the lecturer, Mr. Bottrill, on Thursday last. A very* pleasing feature was the presence of a. number of visitors, who received a cordial welcome from the chairman for the evening (Mr. Dempsey 1, and who were invited to take part in the discussion that followed the lecture, many of them availing themselves of the invitation. The subject, “The Ownership of Land,’’ gave the lecturer a big held, so largo indeed that it is intended to devote am other evening to the subject. The lee, turer dealt in a lucid way with tha ancient systems of ownership of land, and then referred to the more modern, directing attention to the fact, that ■popular opinion was against huge landed estates. On the other hand, cutting up the land into too small holdings was to be deprecated, because it tended 1•> degrade the holders into mere serfs. The discussion that ensued, parties larly on the question of freehold Vers' - leasehold, was a very spirited one, each «vstem having its supporters. The nui - iority were in favor of the freehold; at least until some better form of leasehold than that existing at present haa b«ui devised.
