SUGAR CONTRACT.
BENEFITS TO CONSUMERS. A GREAT SAVING. By T^^rraph—Press Association Wellington, Last Night. An important bulletin issued by the Board of Trade deals with the Dominion’s sugar supply, and contains a comprehensive survey of the world’s sugar position. The statement defends the Government's contract with the Colonial Sugar Relining Company, and claims that the net saving to New Zealand consumers, under the existing contract, in comparison with the world’s prices, is in the region of £900,000. This, added to the savings of just over £4,000,000 on previous arrangements, makes the total savings of the New Zealand consumers, as compared with the users ot sugar in other parts of the world, of about £5,000,000 in the past six years. Summarising the position, the statement says a definite contract between the Government and the Sugar Refining Company lies provided for: (1) A good supply of sugar, considerably in excess of that available in other countries of the world; and (2) important price advantages by reason of the fixed retail price jbeing less in comparison with other countries, and the market being stabilised.
