Mr. H. Trimble has been re-elected representative of the Taranaki Education Board on the New Plymouth High Schools Board of Governors.

Owing to indifferent health, the Rev. J. Cocker, of Masterton, has resigned his position as editor of the Vanguard. Air. G. W. Rogers, clerk to the Egmont County Council, left by the. mail train yesterday for Wellington on county business.

Messrs. A. Morton, TI. D Forsyth and J. B. Marx were passengers for Welling, ton yesterday to attend a meeting of the Butter Committee.

Major Foley, of Stratford, left yes terday morning for Wellington, where hi was to be invested last night with th< D.S.O. by Lord Jellicoe. Dr. TruLy King, who has been indis posed, is improving, but is not yet wel enough to leave Wellington on a pro posed visit to Christchurch.

Mr. Af. Fraser, chairman of the Tara naki Hospital Board, who has been il recently, was yesterday taken to a pri vate hospital.

The death has occurred of Mr. C. Rider, who, for a great many years, was an esteemed resident of the Turakina district.

At yesterday’s meeting of the Taranaki Education Board the resignation was received of Miss V. M. Lambert as general instructor at the New Plymouth Technical College as from September 16.

The death of a well-known and respected Canterbury early settlor, Mrs. Elizabeth Stalker, took place recently. Mrs. Stalker arrived in this country with her husband in 1864, and lived in the Rangiora district for many years. They were among the sufferers from the Waimakarirl floods, and had many adventures in the early days.

The death occurred at Christchurch on Saturday of Air. Albert James Wintie, proprietor of the Gers ten a Food Company. The late Air. Wintie was born 48 years ago in Ross, Herefordshire, his people being of an Gid Country family that had owned the same mill in Ross, Herefordshire, England, for over 200 years. He came to the Dominion about eighteen years ago. He became proprietor of the Gerstena Food Company a few years ago. Deceased was a prominent Freemason, being a member of the Civic Lodge. He was well-known for his charity, which knew no denomination, and he was known among a large circle of friends as a “white man.” He was a member of the Christchurch Bowling Club. About two weeks ago Mr. Wintie had a stroke, followed by another early on Saturday morning, his death occurring shortly afterwards. The deceased leaves a widow but no family.
