BOXING.

STRATFORD TOURNAMENT. FACOOREY KNOCKS OUT LANE. There was a good house at the Stratford Boxing Club’s tournament in the Stratford Town Hall last night, but the exhibition of boxing was rather disappointing. The best exhibition in the amateur cla’ss was in the first bout by Collins and Sullivan, both Stratford boys, tfho showed good promise. Tho big professional bout somewhat compensated for any disappointment in the earlier fights, although it appeared in the early rounds that Lane would not see the fifteen rounds out. Tho tournament was well managed throughout, with no delay In getting the bouts off. Mr. Tim Tracey, of Wellington, gave decisions that met with general approval. Details of the matches are:— LIGHT-WEIGHT. H. Sharrock (9.12%), of Stratford, appeared at a disadvantage to S. Lind (10.2%), of Hawera, not having the react of Lus heavier opponent, but from the first round Sharrock forced tho fighting. Had Sharrcek’s heavy | Plows been better aimed the fight would have | been over before the fifth and final round. Sharrock was awarded the verdict After a pour exhibition. WELTKR-WTUIGHT. In tho welter bout, A. Duggan (10.5), of Normanby, stood up to W. McNeil (10.1%), of Eltham, and made ttings warm from the start. O’Neil took the count to 9 in tho ■ first round and threw io the towel in fh© I second. FEATHKR-WEIGRT. J. Millar (9.13), of Midhirst, outclassed P. | Skoglund (9.7). of Stratford, in the feather-; weights, and Skoglund threw up the sponge in | tho first round to his heavier aud better trained opponent, the discrepancy in the weights being apparent. WELTER-WKIGHT. Ken Rowson (10.10), of Stratford, opened a poor first round against Bert Clarry (10.10) < f Eltham. Rowson got home' heavy body blows in the second, but ci inching spoiled the bout. Clarry forced the fighting, espoct | ally in the fifth and last round, and secured .he verdict.

THB PROFESSIONAL BOUT. In '.he feather-weight professional match, George Lane (8.13%), of Dunedin, met Bert ■ Pacoorey (8.11%), of Auckland, in a fifteenround bout or a finish for a purse of £lOO. Lane appeared nervous at the start, but this impression icon disappeared. Facoorey proved faster than his opponent, his footwork being markedly good, and he shiwed to advantage in evading Lane's head blows. In the third round the referee had to caution Lane for hitting after the "break” was given, and on several occasions Facoorey appeared to wait for the referee. In the succeeding rounds the honors were fairly even, Lane getting in some heavy body blows and raising the hopes of his supporters. In the eighth round Facoorey took a heavy body blow from Lane and a quickly following one to the head, which roused Facoorey to little effect. Lane hit the mat from a blow on the throat, and the gong appeared to save him, but he did □ot come back, being carried out. "ADDY PASCOE AND MIKE FLINN. Mr. Gaffaney announced that a challenge to the winner of tho professional feather-weight fight had been received from Paddy 1-ascM and Mike Flinn, two Australian boxers AUCKLAND MEETING.
