Slips made from Us Gd to 17s; stores, 21s to 355; and sows due to farrow shortly £5 10s to £6 15s; a set of tripod harrows sold for £7 10s; hinau fencing posts made Is 6d; cocks and hens Is fid to 2s 9d, coekerells Is fid, young drakes Is lid; berberries plants,, in bundles of 25, made Is Id; and a large assortment of vegetables sold at good prices and readily. Two residents of Inglewood have lately been working near The North Egmont Hostel, and it is interesting to get in touch with them and compare notes as to weather experiences, etc. For instance. on Wednesday last, 6th inst., \yhile on the lower levls the weather was overcast and cold, up there they had a brilliant bracing day. though the popu. lated country lower down was hidden under a shroud of cloud. One of them, who has seen sunsets in various climes, India and England amongst them, says that on Wednesday it was the grandest he ever saw. It is pleasing, too, to learn that native birds are availing themselves of the sanctuary in the reserve. Kaka, kakaiki, moko moko are in goodly number, as also are the bush robin and. pigeon. The nights up there have been really cold, but a roomy fireplace with a good supply of wood gives them all the warmth they need until they turn in. when an extra blanket insures comfort for the night. The display of frost effects in the bright morning sunshine is declared to be very fine.
