The hank returns for the June quarter just closed reveal a continuation 1 of straightened finance. Throughout the war period and up to nine months ago. these returns showed a plentiful supply of funds in the banks’ coffers. Last December quarter there was still a, fair surplus of deposits over advances, but for the March ■ quarter this was changed to an excess of advances of £5.290,510, and for the latest quarter this excess of advances is £8,874,302.
