Among tie remits carried were the following:—Christchurch.—“ln view of the fact that Christchurch dairy factories work an average of forty-eight hours per week, every effort be made to secure a uniform average week of forty-eight hours for dairy factories.” Auckland.—“ Sunday work in butter I factories should be entirely abolished. Wages j of the classified assistants in the butter and cheese factories should be increased by at least 2s lid per week on the present rates ruling in the Southland and Otago award, and the wages of the general hands should be £4 Bs, the living and basic wage as pronounced by the Court. There should be double pav to all employees on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day, Good Fridav, Easter Monday, Labor Day, Anzac Day, and the .King’s Birthday. Enginedrivers should receive the same rates of pay as under the engine-drivers’ award. Motor and horse-drivers should receive the same rates of pay as paid under the motor and horse-drivers’ award. Southland and Otago.—“As the whole responsibility for the manufacture of uniformly high-grade cheese and butter is being entirely thrown on the shoulders of dairy workers of the Dominion irrespective of condition of milk supply, this conference urges upon the Government the necessity of appointing inspectors for the purpose of inspecting the various sources of milk supplies, with a view of raising the dairying industry to a higher standard by having a purer article delivered at the factories, thereby enabling them to place on the Home market a finished article of the highest grade.”
