THREE AND A HALF MILLIONS.’ By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received July 10, 5.5 p.m. London, July 8. In the House of Commons Mr. J. I. Macpherson (Pensions Minister), moving the second reading of the Pensions Bill, stated that pensioners totalled. 3,500,000, which would probably be the maximum. The Bill proposed to remove the control of payment of pensions from local iiommittees in order to secure greater efficiency and economy. During seven months there had been 126 cases of fraud, among officials of local committees. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
