The Cairo correspondent of the Times states that the Air Foree has surveyed the Nile Valley, from the Delta to Assouan, on behalf of the Egyptian Government. The results of the surveys, which were executed at both high and • low floods, will prove most useful for irrigation survey purposes. —Times .Service. MANY BANKRUPTS IN GERMANY. Berlin. July 6. German bankruptcies in the half year ended June numbered 1573, compared with 447 in .the same fferiod of 1920. This is ascribed to falling prices compelling manufacturers to sell at a loss. The figures are nevertheless far below the pre-war average. MASSACRE OF JEWS. Copenhagen, July 6. Serious pogroms are reported from*' the Ukraine. It is stated that 100,000: Jews have been massacred and 400 Jewish villages burned. GERMAN WAR CRIMES. Leipsig, July 7. Major Crusins has been convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 29 months’ imprisonment and deprived of the right to wear the uniform. General Strengel was acquitted. A sensation has been caused in French circles. A judge of the High Court who attended the trial described the sentence as scandalous. Persian advice states that Persian rebels are active at Resht and in other districts, and Turcomans arc active in the Astrabad region.
