PACIFIC NAVY.
INDIA MAY CONTRIBUTE.
IN RETURN FOR EQUAL RIGHTS.
By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received July 8, 11.45 p.m. London, July 7.
The Australian Press Association learns that India is prepared to contribute to the naval defence of the Pacific eastern waters provided certain concessions are made in regard to the equal treatment and status of Indians in the Dominions.
Both Mr. W. M. Hughes and General Smuts realise the importance of an amicable settlement of the latter question, and probably an agreement will be reached acceptable to all parties. It is understood Indians are to hold commissions in ships commissioned at Tndia’b expense.—Aus.-N,Z. Cable Assn.
