INTERESTING TO DAIRY FARMERS.
ANIMAL FOODS. At the Dominion Winter Show there will be a display of Meggitt’s, Ltd., animal foods, for which Johnston and Co., are New Zealand wholesale agents. The firm have written giving some data relative to records established by linseed oil fed stock, owned by Mr. A. W. Jones, of Geelong. They write as follows; “Winners of the £4O prize for the best standard herd butter-fat production for the nine months’ test, 1917—Three reserve champions, thr?e years in succession over the n.ne months’ official tests; two top heifers for the nine months’ test—two first prizes. Cows, type and utility classes, Melbourne Royal Show, for cows gaining the Government herd-testing certificates, Jersey herd again top herd, winning the £lO for the second best herd of the nine months’ official test. Names as follows: May Queen 2nd, 11,3191 b milk, average test 4.59, butterfat 519.41; Queen of Holland, 12,575, 3.44, 432.90; Bolobek Rose, 10,048, 4.21, 423; Bolobek Bess, 10,430, 4.04, 421.77; Princess Royal, 10,930, 3.78, 412,07; Pauline, 9,931, 4.06, 403.29. An/1 again winning the reserve champion prize of £5 with champion Friesian cow for butter-fat production over nine months’ test 76 herds competing in all branches, 695 cows. Farmers will be interested to see the display made by Meggitt’s animal foods which have made a name for themselves both in Australia and New Zealand. There wiH also be on exhibition samples of Day, Son and Hewitt’s veterinary medicines. This latter firm is presenting a cup for competition to the cow taking most points after using Kossolian Blood. Salt. Free pamphlets will be available at the £how stall, giving all information relating to the foods, medicines, and representatives will be pleased to see farmers any time during show week.
