DISTRICT NEWS.

PALMER ROAD. (From Our Own Correspondent.) There was a large gathering of friends at Mr; D. Anglesey’s residence to take part in a farewell social to two of their fellow settlers who are leaving the road—Mr. A. Preece and Mr. F. Schwelters. Mr. Preece is leaving for the Matapu district, and Mr. Schweiters is going to Kaponga. During the evening Mr. (’. Crowley referred to the good neighbors both these guests had been during the season, when it was essential for farmers to help one another on the farms, In presenting each with a pocket wallet, he wished them health and prosperity. Mr. T. White also spoke of the excellent qualities of their departing guests. The evening was spent in dancing, and several musical items were given by Messrs. Freeman, Schweiters, White and Master D. Anglesey. Mrs. Benton played the accompaniments. A very enjoyable evening was 'brought to a close by singing “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows” and “Auld Lang S"ae”.
