THE VICE-REGALS.
NEW PLYMOUTH SEASON. As was to be expected from the merit of their opening performance in New Plymouth, that bright band of entertainers, the Vice-Regals, were greeted by an enthusiastic audience at the Empire Theatre last night, when they gave a complete change of programme. The programme enhanced, their reputation and the audience was delighted with the wide variety of items submitted, treble encores being demanded. There is not one dull moment, the performance going with a delightful swing from start to finish. Though humor finds a prominent place, the company possesses some vocalists of outstanding merit, whose songs could not but delight. Miss Rosa D’Arcy was in good voice in “Destiny,” and also in her encore number “Garden of Sunshine.” Miss Jessie Meadows was charming in “How’d You d Like to be My Daddy” and “Coming Through the Rye,” whilst with her sister she captivated the audience in vocal and instrumental numbers, “The Rosary” being feelingly rendered. Mi*. Syd Exton, the tenor of the party, gave “Love, Here is Aly Heart” and “Take a Pair of Sparkling Eyes,” whilst Mr. Roy Simpson contributed “Shipmates and Men and “Drinking.” The concerted numbers by the male quartette drew a double encore. Mr. Will Crawford s dramatic powers were exemplified by his rendering of “The Yogi’s Curse.” Later he convulsed the audience with his funny songs and eccentricities. To-night they will close their New Plymouth season, when a complete change will be given.
