EMPIRE EMIGRATION.

WOULD INCREASE PRODUCTION.

By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyrigtt. London, June 29.

Mr. Winston Churchill, speaking on emigration, said that he believed the increased settlement of the Dominions would reduce unemployment in the Empire by increasing pioduction and consumptisn in the Empire, thereby creating prosperity, in which Britain and the Dominions, would participate.

Mr. Meighen was platonically sympathetic, but his want of enthusiasm was probably explained by Canadian apprehensions that prepaid passages would destroy Canada’s geographical advantages, by putting all the Dominions on an equal footing in regard to the cost of transportation. Mr. Meighen boasted that Canada had expended 120 million dollars on the repatriation of Canadian soldiers, whereupon Mr. Hughes asked Mr. Churrfiill how much Britain had expended and Mr. Churchill replied probably 120 million pounds.
