THE PRICE OF SUGAR.
NO REDUCTION IN SIGHT. • FOREIGN SUGAR FREE. By Telegraph-Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. “There is no likelihood of a drop in the price of sugar for some weeks,” declared Mr. McDonald, chairman of the Board of Trade, to-day. Mr. McDonald said the Board of Trade was now negotiating with the Colonial Sugar Co. relative to the supply of sugar when the present extended contract expires. Mr. McDonald added that there is do intention at present to prohibit the importation of foreign sugar. If merchants are dissatisfied either with tha control or the price of the controlledS product they are at perfect liberty tow go elsewhere fqr their sugar. The matter of the relatively lower quotations for Java sugar was mentioned. “M er chant may have received these said Mr. McDonald, “but they have noir got the prices and the supply in. thdi one apot.” ,
