DISTRICT NEWS.
PUNGAREHU. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The milk supply at the coastal factories is now at the minimum and consequently operations in some places have practically ceased. Many families are now on the look-out for milking on shares for the new dairying season, several milking machines are to be installed for the coming season. The coastal districts were well represented at the Winter Show held, at Palmerston last week. Each and all speak highly of the arrangements for the comfort and pleasure of visitors made by the officials. The Winter Show to be held at Hawera on the first week of July, promises as usual to be a success. Quite a large number of visitors from this end will probably attend. The success which attended the past season should be a sufficient guarantee of Its popularity. A visitor to New Zealand expressed the opinion that the resources of this Dominion would make it ultimately one of the greatest countries in the world. The number of visitors for the month to Pungarehu has been quite up to that of previous months. Those visiting the Cape Egmont Lighthouse Include the following:— M. Dickson (Hawera), Irene Moffat (Oroua Downs); AL Furness (Waipipi Auckland), W. Hughson (Wanganui), W. .1. Mooney (Wal-tol-toi), W. Armstrong (Kawbia), A. D. Lusk (Oaonui), J. M. Campbell (DunedinH. -Hirst (PahhitUfl), E. Hirst (Pahlatua),'C.’ A. Rumball (Urenui), E. Neilson (Morrinsville). The Kahotu Bowling Club are finding that it requires money to keep things moving, and in order to supplement the funds, are holding a euchre party and dance shortly. They deserve support, as they have certainly showed themselves to be good sports. All anxiety concerning the cases of whoopijig cough which have prevailed amongst the younger people appears to have entirely disappeared. and the district is again free from sickness. Much sympathy is extended to the sons and daughters of Mrs. M. F. Taylor, including Mr. Eli Taylor and Mr. Stronge Taylor, formerly of Pungarehu and now of New Plymouth. Mrs. M. F. Taylor died at her daughter's residence in Epsom, Auckland. Up to the present nothing has been done locally in the direction of discussing the question of a roll of honor in memory of the young men of this district who served or lost their lives in defence of the Empire, and It is felt that it is time a move was made. That increasing keeness is being shown by the newly appointed school committees on the coast, is evidenced by the improvements made to the grounds during the past few months A definite plan of beautification is being followed at several schools, and there was evidence everywhere of constant painstaking attention.
A welcome social will be tendered to the Rev. H. A. Colaman, Mrs. Coleman and family at the Pungarehu Hall on Friday evening, July 1.
