MANAWATU SHOW SALE. Dalgety and Company Limited, Palmerston North, report having held their annual consignment sale of show stock on Thursday, 23rd inst., and catalogue comprised . a number of milking Shorthorns and Friesians. WAIKATO STOCK MARKET. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Ltd., report:— At Hamilton on Thursday, June 23, we had a fair yarding of ail classes of stock and are able to record a satisfactory clearance. The tone of the market was distinctly bright throughout, everything submitted drawing brisk competition. The demand for prime beef was good, heavy cows making from £lO 2s 6d to £l2 2s 6d, for a pen of well finished Polled Angus cattle. Lighter weights £5 to £6 10s. No well finished steers were yarded, the best making to £lO 2s 6d, forward steers from £6 to £7 15s. The advertised Hereford bullocks were not sufficiently forward to attract those in search of turnip cattle. They ranged in price from £7 Is to £8 10s, with an avereage of £7 17s 6d for the line. Fresh cows were well competed for making from £2 10s to £l4 2s 6d, steers, 18-months made from £2 7s f’>d to £3 7s for medium quality cattle. Helfers same age empty to £4, smaller sorts £2 to £2 12s 6d, dairy cows, Jerseys to £22 10s, Shorthorn backward £5 5s to £6 10s, older cows £2 10s to £4 10s, best heifers £9 to £l2 ss, others £5 to £7. Steep sold under good competition at an advance on last weeks rates. Best heavy wethers to 24s 9d, forward wethers 17s to 18s Id, store wethers 14s 8d to 16s, iambs forward 15s 6d. The market for pigs made a sharp advance, baconers making to £6 18s, porkers £2 10s to £3 12s 6(1, slips 30s to £2 ss, weaners rose at least 50 per cent, in value making from 12s to 27s 6d. On Wednesday, June 22, we held a clearing sale at “Silverdale,” Ruakura, on account of Mr. W. A. Flynn, with most satisfactory results. The herd consisted of 46 cows all grade Jerseys. Competition was brisk from the commencement. 45 of the number ranging in price between £ll and £33. An average of £2l. Buyers were present in large numbers representing many outside districts. The Jersey cow seems proof against the adversities which have overtaken most other classes of stoek. Indeed it appears as" if the breed might enjoy even greater popularity than was bestowed lust season. Implements, sundries etc., sold at ruling NEWTON KING LTD. REPORT. At Douglas on June 20, the yarding was small, but enquiry firmer, sheep prices especially showing an advance. Ewes in lamb 10s, 14s id, 14s 7d, store cows 10s, weaner bulls 255, weaner heifers £2 6s, in-calf heifers £7 10s. At Stony River on the same day we held a sale of grade Jersey heifers on account of .Messrs. Chas. Wells and O. Cross. There was a very good attendance of buyers a:id strong and steady demand kept up right throughout the sale. The cattle caune forward looking in very good condition, prices as follows on account of Mr. Wells:—Best quality and early calvers £2O to £23, others £l2 to £2O, GO head averaging £l5 ss. On account of Mr. Cross, best £2O to £22, others £l4 upwards. On 21st inst., we conducted a clearing sale at Kapuni on account of Mr. A. Preece. Despite Inclement weather there was a very fair attendance and the sale was keenly contested throughout. The cows were a nice lot and afforded good competition, as high as £34 being obtained, whilst the herd averaged £l6 Is. Quotations: Early calvers £l5 to £34, later £8 to £l4. At Stony River on the same day although only a small yrrdiug came forward the market had a much brighter tone and everything sold. Store pigs 17s 19s Cd, sow and litter . £5, Jersey weaner heifers £4 Ss Cd £4 12s, empty heifers £4 ,2s 6d, heifers with calves £.5 £6 5s £6 10s, Shorthorn bull £4 10s, in-calf heifers £7, springing heifers £lO £lO 5s £lO 15s, more forward do £ll 10s £ll 15s £l2, heifers calved £lO, dairy cows £9 10s £l3.
At Bell Block on June 22, we conducted a clearing sale on account of Mr. T. Walker, and report a most successful clearance. The herd, although small was of good quality, the best cows selling to as h'gh as £3O, a satisfactory average of £l7 5s being obtained. Sonne well-bred 2-year and yearling Jersey heifers also made good prices. Best cows. Jerseys, £2O to £3O, Lackward and colored do £l2 to £lB, 2-year Jersey heifers £l3 to £l4 10s, draught gelding £24, draught mare £ll, weaner Jersey heifers £6 35,, pedigree Jersey bull “Harvestime,” 35 guineas’ yearling bulls £3.
At Waiwakaiho on 23rd hist., we had a good yarding of store and dairy cattle, and report a good clearance. Ewes in lamb Ils Cd, fat cows £0 9s, weaner steers 20s, weaner heifers 30s, 15-month steers 30s, stere cows £1 2s Gd £1 Gs £1 12s, in-calf Jersey heifers, backward and small £9 £9 10s £lO, Jersey cow lu profit £2O 10s, dairy cows £9 £l2, heifer calved £ll, quality 2-year grade Jersey heifers on account of Mr. A. J. Luxton £l6 to £lB 10s.
