Sir Joseph Cook announced that the Government is appointing Mr. Justice Powers in place of Air. Justice Higgins as President of the Federal Arbitration Court. LABOR AND IMMIGRATION. Melbourne, -Tune 24. The Labor Congress passed a resolution that organised Labor will oppose further assisted, immigration, and that no Government without first having secured the approval of organised labor. WHEAT POOL ABANDONED. Received June 24, 5.5 p.m. Melbourne, June 23. It is unofficially stated that the Victorian Government has decided to discontinue the wheat pool. THE BASIC WAGE. Received June 24, 5.5 p.m. Melbourne, June 23. The Labor Conference carried a resolution adopting the finding of the Federal Basic Wage Commission in its entirety, and calling upon the Commonwealth and State Governments to give effect thereto. RESTRICTIONS ON SEDITIOUS BOOKS. Received June 24, 5.5 p.m. Melbourne, June 23. A proclamation has been issued prohibiting the importation of literature advocating the overthrow by force of the established Government of the Commonwealth or any other civilised country. The prohibition also applies to any literature wherein a seditious intention is expressed. THE ( AMATEUR DEFINITION. Received June ’24, 5.5 p.m. Sydney, Juno 24. The Sporting Federation further discussed the amateur definition and passed a resolution in favor of purely amateur control by 11 to 4, which was not a three-fourths majority, hence the decision is ineffective.
