RACING IN AUSTRALIA. MELBOURNE ACCEPTANCES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Melbourne, June 24. The National Hurdle, acceptances number 25. Sandule is top weight with 11.5, British Arch 10.5, Kllowat 9.3. For' the steeplechase there are 21 acceptors. lolanus is top weight with 11.11. No New Zealand horses accepted. TURF TOPICS. (By "Moturoit.”) Concluding day at Hastings. Rangitikei Hunt acceptances are due on Tuesday. Entries for the Grand Nationals close on Friday. Pavilion returned small dividends each day at Hastings. Crosswords paid a much shorter price than was expected In the Hawke's Bay Hurdles. They backed Mattock as if he was a moral on Wednesday, but he failed to get round. Chatting with Secretary Arthur Way In Marton on Thursday, the writer learned that the furthcoming Hunt meeting was expected to be a most successful affair. There was not much merit in Paddington Green’s victory over country on Thursday, but he has all the qualifications for a good 'chaser, and may do anything later on. Since changing hands Amber Tips has won twice for his new owner, and big dividends have rewarded backers of the Wanganui prad each time. Gang Awa’ was alleged to have been cured of his respiratory troubles, but he was the most distressed quadruped at the finish of the Napier Steeplechase. Fiddlestring is a good sort of a horse, but very unlucky, or he would have won before this. Perhaps his luck may change next start. Two-year-olds will get their last chance this season in the Trial Plate at Trentham. Rumour says that Mouton’s Gift (Abusrd— Princess Moutoa) will astonish the natives ‘n this event. Taranaki punters' should have showed a profit at Hastings 0:1 Thursday, Paddington Green. Prodigal and Mort Avis winning races. Mort Aris should refeat the dose shortly. Molyneaux has been running most consistently of late, and being a mud lark, should keep on winning. The same remark applies to Heathersprig, another horse worth following.

A keen observer who was present at ihe Napier meeting informs the writer that «<> notice should be taken of Admiral Codrington's defeat there, as he ran all over the course and covered "about t.hree miles.” One of these days the Admiral will answer the helm properly, and then it will only be a question of collecting. As anticipated. Merryowen cleaned up the hunters' steeplechasers at the Park and at Hastings. All the same, my informant states, there wasn't much in that case of interference on the part of Signysian at Napier. With a fair go Signysian would win every time. Sir Solo's brother, Sir Llddo (S r Laddo - Wepener) won the principal event at the Bathurst meeting in 'Stralia early this month.

A move in the right direction has been nade by the Avondale Racing Club. The Cup race will be worth £2OOO, of which .? portion goes to the fourth horse. The ds t.ince has been Increased to a mile and a half.

Mr. Arthur Way infor.’js "Moturoa’, that a start has been made with the new course it Marton. The stands will be situated on the opposite side of the present course, higher up, and alongside the Main Trunk line. The Marton Club is in the iiappy position of having no a credit of £2OOO, and by reason of its central position promises to be one of the leading meetings on this coast in years to come.

Weights appeared yesterday for the Rangitikei Hunt Club meeting, and appear to have been carefully framed. Kafour (11.9), may prove equal to carrying that weight‘in the Hunters' Hurdles, in which the class is only moderate. The Hunt Club Cup should he a good race. Stetson appears to be the pick

of the handicap, but he has been off the scene for some time, and Papatere, Camp Guard, and Onlnoto imay beat him on the score of condition. Slgnj’Rlan has only to be produced in the View Halloa Steeplechase to command big support, rod Rococo (who paid a big price at Awapuni) and Simple Sam read best of the others. The Ladies' Bracelet may be fought for by Flying Camp, Army Service and Super Six.

Both open and hack events are likely to attract big fields. In the Heaton Park Handicap, Kilgbur 10.3, Amber Tips 10.0, and Ruddy 10.1, look to be nicely placed, while In the Waironia Handicap nothing flatters more than Lady Kotiropo, Passenger and Some Fashion. Acceptances, which close nn Tue*- ; day at S p.m., are not expected to reduce the fields in these events very greatly. Isaacs returned from the club late one night and was <met. by his anxious spouse witl: tiie query, "Vere have you peen, Isaacs?” "Vere have I peen.” echoed Isaacs, "I have peen to the club, Rebecca, and I vln twenty lofely quid at poker!” "Oh! you darl!ng," cooed Rebecca, "let me kiss you.” The next night a similar thing happened, but on this occasion Isaacs won forty pounds, and was rewarded with a shower of endearments. I And the third night, the programme was repeated, Isaac’s success being even greater. The next day there were races r.t Hastings. Isaacs thought lie would go, for his luck was in, and Rebecca warmly assented. That evening Isaacs, wearing his hat askew over his crest-fallen countenance, crept up the back stairs, and tried to reach his room unnoticed. But Rebecca was there to meet him. "Veil, my lofe, how mooch did you vln to-day?” she began. "Vint How much did I vin?” howled Isaacs, "I didn't vin. I lost the whole bloomin’ lot!” "Vot,” screa'med Rebecca, "you lost! How vos dat?” "Veil,” replied Isaacs in despair, ”1 can shuffle dose cards, Rebecca, but I’m dashed if I can shuffle dose I racehorses I" A
