N.Z. FACTORY MANAGERS’ ASSOCIATION.
THE ANNUAL MEETING. (From Our Special Reporter.) Palmerston N., June 23. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Dairy Factory Managers’ Association was -held on Wednesday, Mr. J. , W. McKeown presiding over a good attendance of members. THE ANNUAL REPORT. The report stated that the membership had considerably increased under the new constitution, and successful conferences had been held at Auckland, Moturoa, Patea, Wellington, Dannevirke, Longburn and Pahiatua, which spoke well for the interest taken in the industry. The executive, with the assistance of the directors, had endeavored to keep in view the importance of tl\e quality of the produce, and at each conference directors were invited to be present. The introduction of farm instructors was fully discussed, and it was found and vouched for by the department that when these instructors were first introduced, material good had resulted without any friction. In presenting the annual report, the chairman referred to the absence of complaints during the past year, which he took as an indication of satisfaction with the executive, and a tribute to the standard of membership. The managers had interested themselves in keeping up the quality of produce they handled, and would continue to do so. He was pleased to note an increased membership, particularly in Taranaki. In seconding the motion, Mr. J. Murray expressed appreciation of what had been done by Mr. A. Neilson in Taranaki; he had been a good battler, and the membership had been increased to 53. It was decided to wipe off arrears on the books for 1919-20, and to circularise all members in arrear for 1920-21. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Officers were elected as follows; Dominion president, Mr. J. IV. McKeown (Featherston); provincial presidents, Messrs. E. H. Reeve (Taranaki), A. J. Garry (Auckland), W. Kilpatrick (Manawatu), D. Kelly (Bush Districts), A E. Fletcher (Hawke’s Bay), J. Middleton (South Island); auditor, Mr. W. E. Bendall; Dominion secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. W. Smith (re-elected). GENERAL. Appreciation of the work of the honorary secretary was expressed, and he was voted an honorarium of £5O for the past year. Several speakers expressed approval of the action of the president in instituting a relief fund for the widow and family of a deceased member, and a committee consisting of the president, the secretary, and Mr. D. Kelly was appointed to take charge of the fund, which the secretary reported already amounted to £222, while other subscriptions had yet to come in. Remits submitted by the Manawatu district were dealt with as follows: That an adequate staff for whey skimming cheese factories be for one vat, one man and manager, thereafter one man to a vat, and one extra besides the manager.—Carried. That the RailwayDepartment be asked to make a reduction in freight on show cheese; also that they carry same on mail trains, and that they be approached again for concession tickets to factory managers attending shows.—Referred to executive. That the show committee be asked to give out cups as before, and that they pack them properly for transit and instruct managers how to clean and safeguard the cups by any* reasonable means they see fit.—Placed in the hand? of executive.
