UNEMPLOYMENT IN DUNEDIN. By Telegraph. -Pres« Association Dunedin, June 21. Unemployment is so acute that the Mayor, Mr. Douglas, will communicate with the Minister of Labor to see what can be done to assist local bodies to retain all employees with dependents. JOCKEYS SUED BY ASSOCIATION. Auckland, June 21. In ’.he Magistrate’s Court, the New Zealand Jockeys’ Association claimed from four jockeys, A. J. MTlynn, L. G. Morris, B. H. Morris and R. Hatch, sums ranging from £35 Ids 9d to £7 10s 6d, subscriptions and percentages of riding money earned during the last six months. Defendants claimed that they were absolved from liability because each had given notice of resignation from the association six months previously. But at the time of the expiration of the six months’ notice tney ' had not paid the arhounts of the sub- 1 scriptions due on the date of resignation. It was stated that counsel for defendants had advised them that, such moneys not having been paid, their resignations became ineffective. The case was therefore adjOiirned that the claim in each case might be paid.
