WAITARA BOWLING CLUB. (From Our Own Correspondent.) June IS. The annual meeting of the above club was held on Thursday evening last. Dr. Campbell (the president) presided. The report congratulated members on the advancement of the club numerically and financially, and also praised Nir. C. H. Sampson (green warden) for the. improvement in the green during the season. The revenue for the year, including balance from the previous year, was £lBl 16s Bd. The expenditure totalled £l4O 4s Id, leaving a balance of £4l 12s 7d. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted: President, Mr, S. G. Fraser; vice-president, Mr. J. Blair; secretary and treasurer, Mr. A. H. Hawkins; committee, Messrs. Telfar, Calder, Young, Huse, L. Sampson, Ford and Main; green warden, Mr. W. Nos worthy; auditors, Messrs. L. Sampson and Huse; selectors, Messrs. Fraser, Ford and Wyllie; delegatee to centre, L. H. Sampson and A. H. Hawkins. The secretary reported that he had not been able to obtain possession of the Gilmour Cup, won by the Saturday players, and, as far as he was concerned, he did not intend to ask for it again. He was informed that the club would be asked to put in ten rinks each Saturday, but that seemed a tall order. A dark blue coat with gold monogram on pocket was selected as the club’s colors. Mr. W. Telfar, who won the singles, was presented with the g<’d medal given by a friend. An honorarium of £5 5s was voted to Mr. A. H. Hawkins, who carried out his duties admirably. GENERAL. The first baby visitor to the Plunket rooms was Allen Crowe, and to mark the occasion the president presented a silver serviette ring to the baby. At a meeting of the Waitara Fire Board on Thursday evening Mr. A. J. Canton was appointed superintendent of the local brigade, vice Mr. C. Limmer, resigned. Mr. Canton comes from a firefighting family, his brothers being in different brigades throughout the country, and his father (Mr. Geo. Canton) is superintendent of the Taumarunui Brigade. On the request of the farming community, who are having trouble with their dairy herds owing to abortion, Mr. Woods, M.R.C.V.S., is giving a lecture on this subject next Friday afternoon in the Clifton Hall. The project started some time ago to collect funds for the erection of a memorial to Waitara’s fallen soldiers, has not met with the response the object deserves. There is not £3OO in hand. PERSONAL. Mr. J. W. Laing, secretary of the Waitara Harbor Board, has been granted leave of absence to attend the Dominion conference of the Legion of Frontiersmen at Gisborne. Mr. T. (Ewens, president of the Waitara Freezing Workers’ Union, left yesterday morning to attend the annual conference of the Freezing Workers’ Federation, to be held in Wellington on June 22. Before the close of the Bowling Club’s annual meeting the president took the opportunity of presenting to Mr. C. H. Sanfpson, last years green warden, a set of motor car tub&s. In making the presentation the president said he felt sure he voiced the opinion of members on the satisfactory playing surface of the green which was due to Mr. C. H. Sampsons untiring efforts.
