BREACH OF TRUST.
SENTENCES OF SIX MONTHS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. David Erol Sutherland, formerly employed by the Defence Department, appeared in the Supreme Court to-day for sentence, having pleaded guilty to stealing sums of money totalling £lOO. General Richardson said the officer had a splendid record in the expeditionary force and was chosen for leadership on account of his character, general ability and capacity. He was a worthy man and a good husband. He had been wounded and gassed. Frank Emeny, another young man, also stood in the dock beside Sutherland. He had pleaded guilty to the embezzlement of sums totalling £9O from the Official Assignee’s office. The Judge expressed regret at seeing a man with the record of Sutherland before him on such a charge. He said he was giiilty pi a grave breach of trust and he sentenced both to six months’ gaol.
