OWNERS AND TRAINERS. NORTH ISLAND ASSOCIATION. A* meeting of the North Island Racehorse Owners’ and Trainers’ Association was held in Palmerston North this week, Mr. A. M. Williams presiding. Provisional rules as drawn up were adopted, and it was decided to incorporate the association under the Friendly Societies’ Act. Officers were elected as follows :—Patron, Mr. R. Vice-presidents were also elected representative of numerous districts threughout the North Island. TURF TOPICS. (By “Moturoa.”) Acceptances for to-day's races at Greenmeadows are hardly as numerous as might have been expected. and before the East Coast racing carnival (two days at Tie Park and three at Hastings) is concluded, there will be same very small fields Indeed. Taranaki stables are fairly well represented to-day, and most of our horses should pay their way at the carnival. Last year Paddington Green and Marshal Nell earned distinction at the Napier Park meeting, and there seems no reason why Te Toa, Simonides and Prodigal should emulate their deeds this time. A good field of a dozen is carded for the Moteo Hack Hurdles, one mile and threequarters, including Powder King. Sir Agnes and Sir Roseberry of the tried brigade, as well as promising sorts like Hyttus, Dribble, and Fiddlestring. Possibly Sir Roseberry will be sent out a hot favorite, but Powder King should also have a big following. Of tie ten paid up for in the Petane Hack Steeples, two miles, Te Toa is also engaged in the Napier Steeples, but l.f Mr. P. Johnson elects to start him In the hack event he should (on Wanganuil and Egmont form) be very hard to dispose of. John Bunny appears te have his full share of weight, and Otauru Kid and Guy Boy should both hold the northerner safe. If saddled up Te Toa, Gay Boy and Otauru Kid should carry tte bulk of the money. Heathersprig won the Stewards’ Stakes last year with 9.2, beating Gold Kip, Maiolui, and a strong field, and it remains to\be seen whether 10.12 will stop lihm to-day.\ Simonides may do better over u shorter instance, but Rose Wreath, Molyneaux, and Admiral CodrLngton can all get a full mile and a quarter. In fact this trio appears to be most dangerous, and it would not be surprising if Admiral Codrington were sent out favorite. The Gisborne horse made many friends by his fine displays at Hawera and at Wanganui, and there Is no doubt he is a really good one. A small, but select field will contest the Napier Steeples, three miles, including Khartoum, who won the race last year with 9.7, and Foeman, who scored the previous year. On the former occasion Luke 11.4, was best backed, but could only get third. Luke is undoubtedly a better horse this season, but 11.8 is a big load, and Matt'Zk and Te Toa (If started) may make hiun carry it all the way. The weight carrying record is still held by Mutiny, who won with 12.3, while Kiatere and Braeburn each made light of I2st. Kaur! Gum and Braeburn eact won the race twice, and Alex. Hall, J. Deery, aud Frank Flynn rode three, winners apiece. Whether Foeman or Khartoum can register a second victory is a moot point, but the public may prefer the chances of Mattock to-day. The Ladles’ Bracelet has attracted fewer acceptors than usual, but the Issue looks very open. A good number of those engaged have not sported silk recently, and Wamba and Prodigal may strip as fit as anything in the race. Lord Nagar is the Kemball elect for the Ahurirl Hurdles, one mile and three-quarters, and with 10.11 must be given a great chance. Hyginas, on the sarnie mark, may b - better backed, but the Aussie horse has done more this season. Parisian Diamond will make his debut in this race, and if he fences decently may beat the lot. However, few punters care to risk their coin on a horse first start over hurdles. Thirteen hold their ground In the Settlers’ Hack Handicap, including Makere, Doric and Top Dog, who are all reported to be very well at present. , ,
