NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL. PLUNKET SHIELD RULES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. At ai meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council a suggestion of Auckland that the Redpath trophy be awarded to the batsman of a major association with the best in representative matches was adopted. A new rule was carried classifying Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury and Otago as major associations, Southland and Hawke’s Bay, which were previously «o classed, being cut out. Various alterations to the rules governing the Plunket Shield competition were made. It was decided that in future the competition be open to all major associations, each to meet all the others each year, the competition to be inaugurated by all competing teams except Auckland travelling north next season, and all matches to be played to a finish.
