REDUCING WAGES.

After several meetings between the masters and men in the engineering trade the negotiators arranged a ballot among the men on the masters proposed reductions in wages. London, June 10. The* negotiations . in the engineering wages dispute have come to a deadlock, and, failing a new development to-day, 1,500,000 men will be locked out at midnight to-night. . The proposed reductions are equivalent to IBs weekly for artisan time workers, 12s for laborers, and £1 for pieceworkers. The employers agree to extend the period of the reductions from June to September. The men’s union requested a suspension of the lock-out for a fortnight to enable them to take a ballot. The employers refused, and also withdrew the extension of the period. The men are anxious to avoid a stoppage, but will take the ballot notwithstanding the lock-out.
