NEW ENTENTE.
AMERICA AND BRITAIN. PRESIDENT HARDING’S PLAN. FOR WORLD PEACE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. New York, June 14. The Washington correspondent of the New York Globe learns on sound authority that President Harding is considering an Anglo-American Entente as the safest means of protecting America and promoting the world’s peace. The difficulty is finding a means of putting such a policy into practice without upsetting the Washington doctrine against alliances. Such a foreign policy while generally approved by President Harding’s advisors would provide obstacles for the party undertaking its establishment, especially for the Republicans, who are under obligations to several anti-English factions for their tremendous victory last November. The correspondent states that while it seems doubtful if the Administration will go as far as a formal alliance with Britain it may conclude a commerce treaty and amicable understanding. It is declared that President Harding is holding to his ideas, despite factional opposition, and that he is frequently discussing it with his closest advisors. BARRIER AGAINST WAR. SCHEME WILL BE WELCOME. Received June 16, 8 p.m. London, June 15. The Times, in a leader discussing President Harding’s despatch, says it will be welcomed by all peoples of the Empire, for all the best minds have long looked forward to an Anglo-American agreement as the great saving ideal. What the whole world wants is an effective barrier against new wars, and a unique opportunity now presents itself. —Times Service.
