“SCARLET AND WHITE” DANCE.

A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. The “scariet and white” dance, held in Kawaroa Park bungalow last evening in aid of the girls’ hostel funds, was a distinct success, over eighty couples being present. "Never saw anything like it before in New Plymouth,” said one visitor, and he was right, for nothing more beautiful or more pleasing could have been devised. Those concerned are to be heartily congratulated upon their success. Mr. T. Hoskin, who kept things going merrily throughout the evening. He was helped by Mr. Beal as M.C., and the music was provided by Miss Rita Sole. Before the grand march took place, Mr. T. C. List, on behalf of the ladies’ hostel committee, expressed thanks to Mr. Hoskin and the others who had helped in getting up the function for the benefit of the hostelry. He complimented all concerned upon the great success achieved, and expressed the hope such beautiful decorations would be left so as to grace another similar function. The grand march was directed by Mr. Hoskin, the evolutions described being a striking and pleasing feature of the evening. Walker and Mrs. C. H. Weston) ns fol l ow; —Miss Iris Callaghan 1, Miss Madaline Callaghan 2, Miss Trueman 3. Miss Berridge 4. Mrs. Walker handed the prizes to the winners.
