RETIRED CIVIL SERVANTS.
ANNUAL CONFERENCE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, June 15. Delegates from all over New Zealand are attending the conference of the New Zealand Superannuated Civil Servants’ Association. The Mayor, Mr. G. A. Wright, M.P., welcomed the delegates and spoke of the great work done by retired civil servants in the past and said they were entitled to more consideration than they had received from the Government. Dr. Newman, M.P., expressed sympathy with the hard lot of civil servants and said they would ever be willing to assist them to secure proper treatment. Captain Barclay, president of the association, replying, said he felt i\iey could start the meeting with the feeling that they had the backing of men of matured experience. Captain Barclay was unanimously elected president of the conference. Displaying the form members of the association are now required to fill up if they desire to secure the bonus, he asked what it meant and answered that it was an exasperation. The Prime Minister has earmarked £lOO,OOO for bonuses, but the association could not secure any information whether 6r not this amount had been expended.
The conference decided to form a united federation of the. various branches of the Association of Superannuated Public Servants (general service, post anti telegraph, railways, and Education Departments).
