UNEMPLOYMENT WAGES.

A LABOR PROTEST, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, June 14. A deputation from the Otago branch o-f the New Zealand Workers’ Union waited on Mr. Statham, M.P., to protest against the State’s alleged breach of agreement. Mr. Boreham stated that the local Labor office was cutting down the wages of men now being sent into the country by 25 to 33 1-3 per cent, on the agreement wages, showing the mistaken character of the ‘acting-Premier’s statement. The union condemned the relief business. It was wrong to ask men to go into the country, where everything was dearer, at a wage they could not live on. Mr. Statham said that he believed the Government’s principle of paying low rates was quite wrong. He promised to endeavor to rectify what appeared to be at least a moral breach of agreement.
