ASSESSMENT COURT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, June 13. The first sitting in the Dominion of the Assessment Court under the Valuation of Land Act commenced this morning. Mr. Day, S.M., was welcomed bv the Dunedin bar. The spokesman said they felt that this new permanent court, headed by a magistrate of Mr. Day’s experience, would be an advantage to the public. Air. Day said it was hoped the work of the especial court, instead of a number of local courts, would tend to uniform decisions. TROUBLE AT ABATTOIRS. Auckland, June 13. Eight butchers at the city abattoirs paid at piece rates, who refused to cut beef carcases in a certain way, are now idle. The union secretary states uiat they are looking to the Labor Department tc take action for the lock-out, meantime meat is being supplied from the freezers. The dispute was in reference to instructions to use the saw instead of both the saw and chopper.
