THE TEACHING OF HISTORY.
CURIOUS CLAUSE IN THE ACT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, June 8. On receiving intimation from the Minister of Education that it was intended instruction in history andt civics shall aim at instilling in boys and girls love for their country and pride in the achievements of the British race throughout the Empire, Mr. King, the chairman, remarked that it seemed an opportune time to take exception to the clause in the Act which gave parents the opportunity of objecting to their children being taught history. The board had sent a remit urging the deletion of this clause in the Act. He moved a resolution on similar lines, which was carried by four votes to three.
