CHORAL SOCIETY.

OPENIN'G CONCERT. It is with pleasure that the New Plymouth Choral Society, which was formed as the outcome of the production of “The Messiah” last year, announces its opening concert, which is to be given in the Empire Theatre on Wednesday, • lune 29. A very keen interest in the class of music undertaken has been shown, and the choir for the first concert will Consist of about 70 voices. Those wishing to join for subsequent concerts should make early application to the secretary (iV|r. P, Fredrich For the forthcoming concert the programme will consist of miscellaneous items Judiciously selected from the works of such composers as Piossini, Haydn, Pinsuti, Abt, Elgar, Sullivan and Bishop, and the members of the chorus have applied themselves to. the work of preparation with an enthusiasm and diligence that ensure a performance of high standard. On this occasion the society will have the assistance of Mrs. F. C. Fefry (soprano), late of Nelson, as vocalist; Mrs. Stuart Russell, elocutionist; and Miss Constance Leatham as solo pianiste., To her previous accomplishments Miss Leatham has recently adtled fresh triumphs before critical audiences in Auckland. The New Plymouth public may therefore look forward to the Choral Society’s concert with the utmost assurance that it will be one of outstanding merit.
