BLOOD STOCK SALE. NEW PLYMOUTH PURCHASES By Telegraph.-.--Press AfFsocinron. Auckland, Last Night. At a blood stock sale at Ellerslie to-day Punch, a yearling colt by Martian—-Bonny Rig. was bought, by Mr. W. Ryan for 460 guineas, and Lelthfield by Mr. W. G. Emeny for 320 guineas. These were the highest prices realised, most of the lots being passed in. Royal Box at. 1025 guineas, and Starland at 1000 guineas. TURF TOPICS. (By “Mdturoa.") The Auckland Racing Club winter meeting will be concluded at Ellerslie to-day. Form is now pretty well exposed, and winners should not be so hard to pick. Omahu, wjio filled the role of runner-up In both of tfie Great Northerns, Is likely to be sent out a warm favorite for the Winter Steeples. Demos, Khublai Khan and Strategy have previous running to recommend them in the York Welter, and Bindle, Nursing Sister and Ruddy may all run prominently in the Visitors’ Handicap. Powder King and Killard appear to be a cut above those engaged in the Orakei Hurdles, even at the weights, and Koura and Totara Jack may be the most reliable, jumpers in the Tamaki Steeples. The. field In the Campbell Hurdles is a strong one, and it would not be surprising If the better of the Auckland cracks, Kauri King and Thrace, finished in front of Fisher today. King Albyn and Glencairn are nicely placed in the Fitzroy Welter. The next meeting of importance will be the i Napier Park Racing Club's winter gathering, which opens on Friday week. Weights for the first day are due on Friday next. Horse-owners are reminded that entries for .the, Eighth Taranaki. Stakes (1922) will be '.received up to Friday, June 10, at 9 p.m. The Otaki winter meeting concluded on Saturday in fine, but cool weather. The track, which had been rolled, was in better order than on the first day, and the racing, which was interesting throughout, attracted a large attendance. Punters began badly, selecting Tigrinia, Lady Kotiropo, and Gallia as the best or the Telegraph Handicap field. A noct start saw Super Six well out in front of Hallowroz and a strung out field. In the straight Lady Kotiropo passed the leaders, bu* quickly compounded, and Makere and Lord Astolat then appeared on the scene. Lord Astolr.t finished strongest and won, out, by. 'iglh, Makere being just in front oi/» Hallowroz. Ngakanui again commasich/ wmoney in the Steeples, but made heavy--w<k of it all the way. Otauru Kid and Gay Boy led for a round, and then Silent Dick joined in. Otauru \Kid quickly tired. Silent Dick and Gay Boy jumped the last fence together, where the former crossed over to the rails. GayBoy made a big effort to get up, but failed by half a length. A protest against the winner was not sustained. Chummy fell, and Orarie; who showed a marl’ced disinclination to face the fences, was pulled up. On the strength of first day's form Moiyneaux, Volo and Tame Fox were backed !.n that order for the Huia Handicap. The trio were always in the picture, and after Molyneaux and Tame Fox had led to the distance the latter drew out and won by a length from Volo, who just beat Molyneauk for second money. Kilgour was fourth. Mort Avis was again made "hot stuff” in the Stewards' Handicap, but was badly placed In the e.arly stages, and just failed to catch Doric at the finish. Income and Kinsccn monopolised ti e betting in the Rahul. Handicap, and after the latter had set the pace, Income came along and won nicely. Rebuff, Hallowvonia, and Californian were the elect of the big field in the Ohau Welter, and filled the places. Rebuff looked like winning at the distance, but Californian and Hallowvonia closed up in the run home, and the judge's verdict went to Californian, wl.th Hallowvonia second and Rebuff third. A section of the crowd appeared to think that Rebuff was second. Proceedings with the Final HackScurry, and of the sixteen runners the three best supported w e ’ - e Ducalion, Jonquil, and Demoness, who attracted the judge’s attention In the order of favoritism. Ducalion was first away and won very easljy.
