PARITUTU.
MEETING OF PROTECTION 1 LEAGUE. At a meeting of the general committee of the Paritutu Protection League last night, the president reported on the steps taken to obtain the opinion of a leading engineer on the question of the suitability of ‘the stone at Paritutu for breakwater purposes, and of the possibility of obtaining stone elsewhere; also as to obtaining the opinion of the Government geologist as to the quality of Paritutu stone. Mr. P. B. Fitzherbert said that he had had an interview with Mr. Newton King, the chairman of the Harbor Board, who said that the board could not go over the heads of their engineers and seek outside advice, but would put no difficulty in the way of the league doing so. The president pointed out that it would be necessary to obtain the consent of the harbor engineers to the proposed examination and report before the duty would be undertaken by an outsider. It was arranged that the president and Mr. Fitzherbert should communicate with the board’s engineers. Mr. J. O. Taylor expressed a wish to resign the office of secretary, as he lived out of town. His resignation was accepted, and Mr. Fitzherbert accepted, L .the poritian.
