The president of the Mining Association has informed Mr. Frank Hodges (the miners’ leader), that the Government time limit regarding its contribuLioil of £10,000,000 introduces a new factor which the owners cannot ignore. Mr. Lloyd George’s letter setting a time limit to the Government’s offer of £10,000,000 has completely surprised the miners’ executive and created a new situation. It is not known whether the executive will take the hint in the letter to arrange a ballot or leave the responsibility of a decision to the delegates’ conference. In consequence of protests from the Miners’ Association Earl Fitzwilliam has stopped the exploitation 6f the outcrop of a seam of coal recently discovered on the Tinsley Park Estate, which has been yielding 2000 tons daily. HELP FROM SOVIET RUSSIA. £20,000 FOR THE MINERS. Received June 6, 5.5 p.m. Petfograd, June 5. The journal Machovik annofinces that the Central Council of Soviet trade unions, is sending £20,000 to the English miners. It declares it is the duty of the Russian proletariat to support the revolutionary movement in all countries, whether in the form of a strike, % rebellion or otherwise.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. DERBYSHIRE MINE AT WORK. London. June 5. The Swanwiek collieries, in Derbyshire, which normally employ 1000 men, have re-opened. The men have accepted a flat rate reduction of half-a-crown per shift with a mutual understanding to abide by the terms of the general settlement.
