REDUCING WAGES.
LOCAL BODIES' ACTION. The question of reducing the wages of local body employees, as tr result of the Government’s intention to curtail expenditure, was discussed in committee by the local bodies conference at Eltham yesterday. On the resumption of business it was announced that the following resolution' had been carried: “That it be a recommendation to all local bodies to reduce wages by one shilling per day, the reductions to include casuals, surfacemen and but to exclude blacksmiths and bridge* carpenters.”
