AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Melbourne, June 3. Hides.—The market was very firm and values appreciated a farthing to a half-penny all round. Bh-rley.—English, 4s 3d to 4s 4%d; Cape, 3s 3d to 3s 4%d. Oats.—2s 4d to 2s 6d. Potatoes;—£4 to £5. Oniocs.—£3 to £3 10s. PRICES AT BURNSIDE. MARKED ADVANCE IN SEVERAL CLASSES. Dunedin, June 1. Offerings of fat stock at Burnside to-day were much below the yardings of late, with the exception of lambs, which were in good supply. Fat cattle and sheep sold at enhanced values. Freezing buyers competed well for lambs, and these also were dearer than at recent sales.

Fat Cattle.—A small yarding, only 93 head being forward. The quality was poor, the supply not being equal to butchers’ requirements, with the result that enhanced prices were realised. The sale opened slightly above par and closed with prices at about 30s per head dearer than last week, prime ox beef being worth 38s to 40s per 1001 b. Quotations: Extra prime bullocks £lB to £2l 10s, prime £l2 to £l6, medium £9 to £l2, light and unfinished £7 15s and upwards; best cows and teifers £l2 to £l4, medium £9 10s to £ll 10s, light and aged £6 and upwards. Sheep.—A small yarding, numbering 1772 head, but the quality was below last week's standard, very few prime sheep being offered. Competition was keen for all good classes, prime wethers and ewes selling at an advance of from Is to Is 6d per head, while inferior ewes sold at prices on a par with last week’s rates. Whether mutton was in the vicinity of 4d per lb, and ewe mutton 3%,d per lb. Prime wethers realised from 25s to 37s 3d, medium 19s to 23s 3d, light and unfinished kinds from 15s upwards. Prime ewes realised from 19s to 23s 9d, medium 14s 6d to 17s, light and aged from 8s 6d upwards.

Lambs.—A large yarding, numbering 2085 head of fair quality. Competition was brisk, freezing buyers competing strongly, and a clearance was effected at prices about 9d per head above last rates. The price of prime lamb was 6%d per lb. Prices ranged from 15s to 28s per bead. Store Cattle.—A small number was offered. These were of very poor quality and the few that were sold realised prices equal to late rates.

Pigs.—A small yarding, .very few baconers being among the number. The demand was good, and prices obtained were on t a par with last week’s rates. Prime baconers and porkers realised from 8d to B%d per lb. ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET. EXPORTERS BUY FREELY. Christchurch, June 1. At the Addington market to-day beef and lambs were a little better, and store sheep were weaker than last week, and sales were difficult to make. Store Sheep.—A very large yarding. Good forward lambs realised 10s to 13s, fair wethers 6s 3d to 7s 9d, small wethers 4s Gd to 5s 9d, culls 3s 4d to 4s 3d, forward 4 and 6-tooth wethers 13s 6d to 17s 4d, ordinary Ils to 13s, inferior 8s 9d to 10s 4d, good 2-tooth wethers 14s 3d, ordinary 9s 6d to 10s 9d, inferior 6s 6d to 9s, good 4, 6 and 8-tootb ewes, in lamb, 14s to 17s 3d, ordinary 12s to 13s 9d, low-conditioned 4,6, and 8tooth ‘ ewes 8s 9d to Ils 6d, good 6-tooth ewes 20s.

Fat Lambs.—A very heavy entry. There being spirited competition amongst exporters, prices showed a slight advance. Extra prime lambs realised 24s 6d to 26a lid, prime 20s to £2s 6d, medium IBs 9d to 19s 9d, light and unfinished 12s to 16s 3d.

Fat Sheep.—The sale commenced briskly, but fell away in the middle, to brighten up again near the finish, with an advance of about 2s per head. Exporters bought freely. Extra prime wethers realised 295, prime 21s to 25s 3d, medium 18s 6d to 20s 3d, inferior and light 15b to 18s 3d, extra prime ewes, 26s Gd, prime 17r 9d to 20s 9d, medium 14s 6d to 17s 3d, inferior and light 8s 9d to 13s »d.

Fat Cattle.—A ’small yarding, prices in consequence advancing from 30s to 50s per head. Extra prime steers realised £lB 7s 6d, prime £l4 to £l7, medium £lO to £l3 17s 6d, light and inferior £6 12s Gd to £9 15s, prime heifers £9 10s to £l4 12s 6d, medium and inferior £5 15s to £8 15s, extra prime cows £l5 10s, prime £7 15s to £l2 10s, medium, inferior £5 6s to £7 10s. Vealers.—Small runners realised £4 2s 6d, good vealers £3 2s 6d to £3 15s, medium £1 15s. to £3, small 8s 6d to £1 7s 6d. Store Cattle.— A. small yarding, and competition was not particularly keen. Aged cows realised to £2, heifers £2 10s, bulls £2 to £5. Dairy Cattle.—A small yarding and prices were high. Extra good cows realised £2O 10s to £22, ordinary, third and fourth dalvers £lO to £lB, cows in profit £4 10s to £9, aged and inferior cows £1 to £4 10s, heifers £7 to £l3. Fat Pigs.—Choppers realised £3 10s to £7, baconers £4 10s to £6, extra heavy £6 6s (average price per lb, 7%d), porkers 55s to 655, heavy 70s to 80s (average price per lb lOd to 10%d). Store Pigs.—-Best stores realised £2 10s to £2 18s, .medium £2 to £2 Bs, small £1 2s to £1 14s, weaners 9b 6d to 16s, sows in pig £5 12s 6d.
