The performance given by the New Plymouth Male Choir last night, an the oonclusion of the season, was well ret ceived by a large audience. The reception accorded the visiting vocalist, Mies Rosa Alba, must havu been highly flattering to that artist.; The capable interpretation of her solos earned several recalls, and the numbers ehotsen were very popular. They in-* eluded the Waltz Song (“Rome<t and Juliet), “Awake” and Taati’q “Good-Bye”. Miss Gladys Gamman is a. versatile elocutionist, and selections of either dramatic or humorous etyle were splendidly handled by her. With a pleasing power of expression she is able to hold the attention of her hearers throughout. The choir repeated their, numbers with good effect, and these met' with a hearty reception. At the conclusion of the programme the conductor (Mr. F. W. G. McLeod) announced that the society was endeavoring to arrange for a return visit by Miss Alba in August next, but the details had not yet been arranged. He also put forward a request for support in the shape of active members, and* pointed out that there was room for practically every voice in a male choir. There were a few vacancies at present, and he expressed the hope that these would be filled up by local singers. Later in the evening the visiting caliste and choir participated in a social function. .
