INGLEWOOD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) At the Town Hall on Tuesday evening the Rev. O. Blundell gave an address on astronomy. The lecture was most interesting from start to finish, and was well supported by excellent lantern illustrations. One of the audience say§, that he had not previously given much heed to this great subject—thought it was beyond him—but lie was so impressed, both by the subject matter of the discourse and by the masterly way in which it was dealt with, that he has become enthusiastic about it and is one of the movers in a project, arising from Tuesday night’s experience, for getting a few local people to guarantee all costs and to invite Mr. Blundell to pay Inglewood another visit and give a similar address, and hand the proceeds to the Astronomical Society of Taranaki. A settler who lives some five miles distant, when casually told of this possible move, at once asked where the fund was being collected and wanted to put his name in •as a supporter of the movement.
The sale at Newton King, Ltd.’s Inglewood yards on Wednesday was as good ag could be expected under the very untoward circumstances. A thorough wet day and a depressed market make a bad combination for an auctioneer to buck against. Nevertheless, though there was a small yarding of stock and only a moderate attendance, a keener demand for dairy stock was evident, and weaners also were firmer. Mixed weaners sold for 50s, weaner heifers with Jersey strain 70s, store cows 67s to 77s Gd, and springing heifers from £l2 15s to £l4.
