THE ELTHAM SCHOOL.

VISIT OF BOARD MEMBERS. Messrs.,P. J. H. White (chairman), R. Mast-. ps, M.P., A. Lees and Eaves, members of the Taranaki Education Board, yisitod the Eltham school yesterday. The chairman of the Board (Mr. White) said he was pleased to meet the members of the committee, and he must congratulate them upon the excellent condition in which the school was maintained. In regard to the new school, which had been mentioned several times that morning, he could hold out little hope. He did not think the new school could be procured for some years to come. The broken windows, of which the board heard quite a lot. was a matter for the committee, and not the board, while as to improvements to the school grounds he suggested that an effort should bo made to raise funds locally for the purpose. Tn regard to the shelter sheds and residence, these matters would be placed in the hands of the architect, who would probably be given power to act. ' In reply to the Rev. J. A. Ilosking, Mr. Masters said he could not say what the Education Department would do with the present site in the event of a now school Wing erected on the new site provided. Tn the event of a secondary school being established in Eltham the Department would probably retain the present site, but if there was no secondary school then the department, would provable dispose of the present site and spend the money on the new site.

In the course of some further discussion upon this matter the architect (Mr. Moore) said the Eltham new school was some way down on the list in the board’s three years’ programme. It would be another two rears before the matter would come ap for consideration. Air. Masters said there were many schools in Taranaki in a much worse condition than the Eltham school,.Argus.
