MORE TROOPS FOR IRELAND. TRIAL OF WAR CRIMINALS. QUESTION OF NAVAL HOLIDAY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright Received May 31, 11.25 p.m. London, May 30. In the House of Commons, Mr. Lloyd George said it was proposed to strengthen the Crown forces in Ireland, and a statement would be made in Parliament ■when arrangements were complete. It was not intended to send reservists to Ireland.
Mr. H. Bottomley (Independent) asked whether, in view of the sentence on Heyner, the Government would have the rest of the trials of Germans removed to London. Sir Gordon He wart (Attor-ney-General) replied that when* the trials were completed all the relevant matters, including the sentences, would be considered by the Powers concerned, and appropriate action would be taken. In the meantime it was not desirable, even if practicable, to interrupt the present series of trials. Sir Gordon Hewart deprecated a tendency to sit in judgment on the sentences at Leipsig on imperfect material; he proposed to await a full report. Replying to Mr. J. M. Kenworthy (Liberal) regarding the United States Senate’s passing of the Borah resolution in regard to disarmament, Mr. Lloyd George said he had not yet received an invitation to attend a conference on the limitation of naval armaments. The House adopted a resolution extending the credits and insurances scheme throughout the Empire, except in India and British possessions in the Far East, which, the Premier stated, requited certain consideration, owing to the conditions under which outstanding commercial obligations had not been fully honored. He emphasised that it was not desirable that credit facilities should be extended if they in anv way prevented traders from discharging their full obligations. The Premier pointed out that it was only when banks* would not take up business that the Government would step in. The scheme was entirely supplementary. Reuter Service.
