FIRES.

A GARAGE DESTROYED. By Telegraph.— Press Association. Oamaru, May 30. A garage, new plant, stock and modern appliances, owned by G. T. Gillies, was destroyed by fire at 6 a.m. yesterday as the result of an explosion by which the owner was severely burned and is now in hospital. Four cars and a motor-cycle were burned and two cars were saved. The owner was in the garage preparatory to a departure at daylight for the country. The insurances were £3OO on the premises in the South British Office, £5OO on goods stored, in the State Office, and an unavailable amount on the stock in the Insurance Office of Australia, Ltd. The wall was burned out of G. Harris’ shed adjoining.
