In the House of Representatives the acute position of the metal industry in Australia was referred to by Sir Joseph Cook, who advocated that the miners should accept a sliding scale in accordance with the conditions of the world’s markets. Mr. Blakely, president of the Australian Workers Federation, stated that his union was favorable to arbitration, but was stoutly opposed to any effort to reduce wages.
