INGLEWOOD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) May 27. The combined cribbage clubs of the district held their monthly meeting on Thursday night/ at the Inglewood Druids’ Hall, where four clubs were represented, and the following scores recorded:—lnglewood Fire Brigade (23 games) v. Waitoriki (20); Bowlers (25) v. Druids (23). The Foresters’ representatives, who were to have played the Egmont Village Club at Egmont Village, were deterred by the wet weather, and so forfeit to the Village. No sheep, but a fair number of cattle, were presented for Wednesday’s sale at the Fanners’ Co-op. yards, Inglewood, where there was a very fair attendance. The tone of the sale generally reflected only too faithfully the existing dull state of the cattle market. The prices for dairy stock in preparation for next season, however, were somewhat more cheering. For store cattle and ordinary young stock offers were more like those of several years back than farmers have been accustomed to in recent seasons. The hope of the farming community seems to be centred in the stability of the market for butter and cheese, for next season at any rate. Store cows sold for 15s to 50s; fat and forward 2A to 3-year-old steers, £5 15s to £7 ss; heifers, £5 ss; small mixed calves, 12s; Jersey heifer calves, 35s to 60s; Holsteins, 255; heifers in calf, small 2-year-olds, 50s to 70s; Holstein grade heifers in calf, £7 ss; Jersey grades, £7 17s 6d to £9 17s 6d; springing heifers, £6 to £10; and cows. £8 to £2O for a choice beast close on calving.
