LESSONS IN LOYALTY.
TEACHING IN THE SCHOOLS. SUNDAY SCHOOLS CRITICISED. By Telegraph —Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Minister of Education states that with the object of inculcating patriotism and loyalty in school children, instruction in schools in history and civics will be framed towards that end. Loyalty will be the dominant nqte, with special lessons on days such as Anzac Day and Empire Day, and every school flag will be saluted and the National Anthem sung each week.
The Minister said this was necessary to counter disruptive influences from which even children are not immune. There were in New Zealand so-called Sunday schools, where ideas were inculcated which were treated with x contempt. National feeling was tending strongly to revolutionary socialism, and class warfare was not a proper subject for any Sunday school.
